"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."-Deut. 31:6

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." --Psalm 46:1

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,  nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 8:38-39

"I messed up. Again. This time I really done it. Just proves I'm a loser like my daddy always said I was. Ain't nobody gonna be able to help me now. Ain't nobody gonna understand. Forgiveness, you say? Yeah, right. Ain't no way I can ever be forgiven. This is my life. Ain't no changin' it, ain't no way out. I'm gonna be here for a long time, an' when I get out, if I'm not dead, I'm probly just comin' right back, 'cause I got nothin' and nowhere to go, an' nobody gives a rip about me anyhow."

Jesus reaches into the prison of our minds, into the barren reaches of our souls. He leaves the 99 to go in search of the one lost sheep. He can release us from the bondage of sin and self-loathing. His love transcends the bars of our resistance and gives hope where there is no hope. He never, ever gives up. He offers the key to freedom. If we take it, he will never, ever leave us or forsake us. The guarantee is in his blood.

But what if we never have the chance to hear this message? How can we take hold of a key that we didn't know exists? Thank God for the servants who bring the message to hopeless places. Thank God for those who serve the "least of these," willing to enter cold, concrete cells to offer the hand of mercy, love for the loveless...and to guide lost youth away from their world-weary path of self-destruction. May God bless Campus Life abundantly for another 50 years, and "fifty times fifty" more than that!
